Like I said in my first post, I’m hoping to train heaps and fight while I’m here. (If work isn’t too hectic!) So I’m going to keep uploading my training vids etc to stay motivated, and to be accountable to myself. Hopefully, even if I don’t get to fight, I see improvements in my technique, fitness, and that my love for the sport will be greater than ever.
I had my last pre-Thailand training session with Kru last week, the master of elbows. I only started properly training for Thailand about three weeks ago – and there is a reason for that, other than the fact I’m lazy AF, which is about 50% of the excuse.
After an intense year last year where I spent more waking hours at the gym than at home, and having done 5 fights in the space of 10 months (literally one month on one month off!) I decided to take a year off to let my body recover. I also desperately needed a mental break: trying to cut weight every month, restricting my diet and training 3hrs a day can burn out a uni student with a part time job. I also spent majority of the year hangry, or scoffing everything in sight because it was post fight week; I definitely didn’t have a healthy balance – at all. Oh, and not to forget the neat souvenir I received on my head the day before my mid-term exams, which I sat severely concussed. (See the pic below: it’s actually really funny in hindsight, and I love showing people how awesome I look.) I loved it so much, but it really turned into a love-hate relationship with Muay Thai.
Maybe I went a little too heavy on the booze this year. But having taken that time off, although I’m 10kg heavier and embarrassingly unfit, I’m completely rejuvenated and ready for a new challenge. I missed getting hit in the face by my family at JAI, and I am sooo ready to get hit in the face again, wahoo! Free adrenalin!
So, I know I’m not at my prime in this video. But I feel like I’m one of those people blogging about an inspiring weight-loss journey with heaps of snaps (videos in my case) – there will be improvement, I promise!
Improve on: Fitness, fitness, fitness… cardio, strength – back to absolute basics. Also get that knot out in my right bum because the speed of my right kick isn’t up to scratch. Maybe I’ll get a traditional Thai massage!
Laugh at: Kru punching me in the stomach towards the end of the vid. This was the third round and it was straight after lunch time – and I no longer (and not sure if I ever did) have abs to protect me from that kind of cheekiness.
